2026 Cheer Squad Guidelines:

The St Kilda Football Club recognises the vital role our Cheer Squad plays in creating atmosphere, energy, and passion at every single game.

These guidelines exist to ensure that all members represent the Club positively and contribute to a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable environment for everyone involved.

General Expectations:

All Cheer Squad members are ambassadors of the St Kilda Football Club and must always conduct themselves in a way that upholds the values of Respect, Inclusion, and Passion.

Members must:

  • Abide by AFL, Club, and venue regulations at all times.
  • Treat all staff, players, umpires, and supporters (of all teams) with respect.
  • Avoid any abusive, discriminatory, or threatening language or behaviour.
  • Not consume alcohol or illicit substances in the designated Cheer Squad area.
  • Refrain from bringing the Club or the Cheer Squad into disrepute through social media or public comments.
  • Support the team in a positive and sportsmanlike manner, win or lose.

Failure to comply may result in suspension or removal from the Cheer Squad and/or the Club’s membership base.

Membership Requirements:

  • All Cheer Squad members must hold a financial St Kilda Football Club membership.
  • Members wishing to attend interstate or finals matches must hold, at minimum, a home-game membership.
  • Members attending away games who do not hold the appropriate access membership are required to upgrade accordingly.
  • The Club will not be liable for any personal belongings lost, damaged, or stolen during Cheer Squad activities.

Game Day and Banner Making

  • The Cheer Squad Bay is a family-friendly area: no alcohol, offensive signage, or anti-social behaviour will be tolerated.
  • Members must follow directions from Club staff, Cheer Squad leaders, venue officials, and security at all times.
  • Members are encouraged to actively participate in chants, banner preparation, and match-day activities.
  • Banner making will typically occur once per week at the Club’s designated facility. Details will be communicated by the Cheer Squad Leadership Group on the Saints Cheer Squad Facebook page and St Kilda FC Website within the Member Zone.
  • It is strongly encouraged that all Cheer Squad members attend at minimum 2-3 banner making sessions a year. Many hands make light work and avoid burnout; we want Cheer squad members to work as a team to complete tasks.
  • Supporters/ members who do not hold a Cheer squad membership but would like to partake in banner making sessions are welcome to join granted they too are respectful and follow the guidelines.

Social Media and Conduct

  • The Cheer Squad’s online presence must reflect the Club’s values.
  • Discriminatory, abusive, or defamatory content posted on personal, or group social media channels will not be tolerated.
  • The Club reserves the right to take disciplinary action (including removal from the Cheer Squad) for behaviour that breaches these standards.

Fundraising and Engagement

Fundraising plays an important role in supporting Cheer Squad activities such as group outings and for interstate trips.

The Club encourages fundraising initiatives and will assist by providing signed and supporter items to use as prizes for raffles, tipping competitions, or other approved fundraising initiatives.

Cheer Squad Members are encouraged to work together, with the management of the Leadership group, to identify creative and inclusive ways to raise funds that support the group’s needs.

Recognition and Engagement Opportunities:

The Club is dedicated to recognising the commitment and passion of its Cheer Squad. This appreciation will be shown through a range of initiatives, including:

  • Occasional surprise visits from players, coaches, or staff during banner-making sessions.
  • Catering support (e.g. dinner) provided at select banner-making sessions.
  • Additional opportunities for engagement and recognition throughout the season.

Complaints and Reporting

All members have the right to feel safe and respected.
Any concerns about behaviour, discrimination, or breaches of these guidelines should be reported to: Braedon.albert@saints.com.au.
